Trowbridge Chamber brings art displays to town centre

The displays, created by the Trowbridge Chamber, follow on from the success of this year’s Trowbridge Flower Festival.

They feature work from local artists, photographers, and creatives in empty units across the town centre.

The aim is to bring vibrancy to the high street, something that has been appreciated by residents and visitors alike.

The artwork includes paintings by local artists Annette Smith, Jennifer Quinnell, Jane Scrivener, Susan Cook, Roy Wilson, Yvonne Powell, and Nicola Hawkins.

Poems by Diana Durham are also on display in the windows of the former Starbucks unit in Fore Street.

The Trowbridge Camera Club, known for organising weekly meetings for photography enthusiasts, is exhibiting members’ photographs in the former Woolworths/British Heart Foundation store.

These feature a wide range of subjects including motorsport, cityscapes, and wildlife.

The Sustainable Image Lab, known as SILT, a visual arts research studio for image-making with ecologically sound materials, is displaying work in a newly renovated unit in Fore Street.

SILT is also organising a free art session for young artists aged between 11 and 16 on October 4.

The pop-up art spaces not only make the town centre more attractive, but they also help to encourage new businesses to take over previously empty units.

New businesses opening soon in Trowbridge include the Always You Bridal Shop in Silver Street, Bether’s Dog Spa & Services in Roundstone Street, and the British fashion brand Cotton Traders, which has just opened its latest store at the Trowbridge Garden Centre.

The Trowbridge Chamber is a not-for-profit community interest company with more than 220 members and is one of the largest business networks in Wiltshire.

The Chamber supports local businesses, organises monthly networking events, represents businesses at local and national levels, and promotes Trowbridge as a good place to do business.

Membership is open to businesses of all sizes from just £35 a year.

The Chamber is also instrumental in bringing the first Wiltshire Business Show to Trowbridge, which will take place at The Civic on September 17 and 18.

The Wiltshire Business Show, which will be opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, will showcase a wide range of regional businesses and host a series of panel discussions with business leaders, MPs, and councillors on subjects such as AI, business skills, finance, and Tech Trowbridge.

The Trowbridge Chamber will be co-hosting a networking breakfast with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) on Thursday, September 18.
