George Wade, a senior executive at Bidpath from Thirsk, was diagnosed in April 2024.
He went on to complete the London Marathon in three hours and 16 minutes, raising £41,000 for charity.
Mr Wade’s story of resilience has led to the creation of the Gavel Art Trail, a nationwide fundraising initiative launched by The Bidpath Foundation in partnership with Wild in Art.
The trail features 1m-long gavel sculptures designed by artists and sponsored by auction houses across the UK and Europe.
One of those auction houses is Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, which is displaying its own commissioned gavel until the end of October.
Created by Northern artist Jonathan Armigel Wade, the sculpture is painted in his distinctive “curvispective” style and celebrates the landscapes of Yorkshire from the Dales to the coast.

Other gavel sculptures are on display at sponsor locations around the UK and Europe.
The sculptures will be auctioned on November 6.
All proceeds will go to The Brain Tumour Charity, The National Brain Appeal, and the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN).
Mr Wade’s journey has been described as one of “resilience and determination.”
Supported by his wife Ellie, family, and colleagues, he has continued fundraising despite ongoing health challenges, most recently completing a 10K race in North Yorkshire.
The Gavel Art Trail continues Bidpath’s successful partnership with Wild in Art, which has raised more than £30 million for charity since 2019.
The gavel commissioned by Tennants features cricketers, a racecourse, rolling hills, a bustling market town, farms, and the cliffs of Whitby Abbey.
It also includes whimsical details such as a cat waiting to be let in, a Yorkshire Pudding shop, and four tiny white roses representing the four Ridings of Yorkshire.
A fully illustrated auction catalogue will be available on the Tennants website ahead of the sale.

Tennants Auctioneers is a fourth-generation family business and one of the UK’s largest antiques and fine art auctioneers, connecting more than 200,000 buyers and sellers each year.
In 2014, it expanded its Auction Centre in Leyburn to 80,000 sq ft with the addition of The Garden Rooms, a venue for events, conferences, weddings, and exhibitions.
The Gavel Art Trail aims to raise significant funds for brain tumour support and other vital causes.
