A tribute to Sir David Attenborough for his 100th birthday has been created in sand on Lancashire’s Morecambe beach.
A team of sand artists completed the work on Morecambe South Beach on Wednesday.
The 80m portrait was produced by Sand In Your Eye, a team of creatives based in West Yorkshire, but working all over the UK, who strive to have a positive impact on the environment.
Among their work is a series of huge sand drawings on beaches around the coastline.

Jamie Wardley from Sand In Your Eye said: “Sir David Attenborough is an icon and inspiartion. He is an ambassodor in the quest to protect nature and in the effort to bring the greatest challenge that thumanity faces – climate change – into the forefront of the publics mind.”
In his COP26 speech Sir David Attenborough said: “If working apart, we are a force powerful enough to destabilise our planet, surely, working togehther, we are powerful enough to save it. In my lifetime, I’ve witnessed a terrible decline. In yours, you could and should witness a wonderful recovery.”
Claire Wardley from Sand In Your Eyes added: “Morecambe Bay is a beautiful location. An intersection where a complex tidal environment meets humanity; both intertwined in each others future. Celebrating this will be the Eden Project Morecambe, which will open in 2028.”
The sand drawing was made by raking the sand. When the tide comes in it erases the image and the beach is returned to its natural state.

An Eden spokesperson said: “We work with Sand In Your Eye and they have chosen the incredible location of Morecambe Bay to create the incredible portrait on the sand close to where our new Eden Project Morecambe will be opening soon, so it’s very apt!”
Sir David Attenborough turned 100 on Friday, May 8, and a number of tributes have been paid to him around the world.
