Norfolk art trail raises awareness of cervical screening

The walk in the Norwich Research Park was developed by Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Norfolk County Council.

It formed part of the Community Naturescapes Norfolk (CNN) project, which connects communities with nature through creative activity.

The trail featured six original artworks produced by the hospital’s team of cytologists in collaboration with Norfolk artist Jen Langeskov.

Each piece incorporates images of real cervical cells, using them to depict a variety of local flora and fauna.

An interactive map guided visitors through the site’s green spaces and nature corridors.

Emma Jarvis, environmental arts manager at the hospital, said the site had “strong potential” to connect a diverse audience with nature.

The project is also linked to Norfolk’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

Lindsay Gardner, lead project officer at the county council, said: “It supports our efforts to halt the decline of nature in England and to increase engagement with the natural environment.”
