Art in the Close outdoor exhibition at Norwich Cathedral

Art in the Close is set to open in September and will continue until spring 2026.

The exhibition will feature works by artists Lynn Chadwick and John Maine in different areas of the Cathedral Close.

Lynn Chadwick’s angular steel work, Sitting Figures, 1989, will be located in the Lower Close.

The Cloister will display two of John Maine’s striking stone works, while Almary Green will have seven of his abstract sculptures, near the main entrance to the Cathedral Close at the Ethelbert Gate.

An exhibition guide, which includes a map of all the artworks, will be available for £2 from the Cathedral Shop.

The free open-air exhibition is part of a new programme of art at the Cathedral, aimed at encouraging visitors to explore the Close’s historic surroundings alongside contemporary art.

Visitors can enjoy the Lower Close and Almary Green in the evenings, while the Cloister closes at 6pm every day.

Norwich Cathedral is hoping the exhibition will offer an engaging way to experience its historic surroundings.
