Making Waves exhibition coming to York Art Gallery


Running from Saturday, May 23 to Sunday, May 31, the gallery will offer additional activities inspired by Japanese artwork, including the famous Great Wave by Hokusai.

Visitors can enjoy a four-step hands-on printing experience, creating a unique souvenir of the exhibition.

Make and Play will return on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, offering self-led activities inspired by Japanese art.

There will also be an interactive storytelling experience and craft activity for younger visitors on Wednesday, May 27, and a Creative Families workshop on Thursday, May 28.

Visitors can also participate in a large-scale creative session in the Japanese Dry Garden on Saturday, May 30.

This free activity, led by artist Lendita, does not require an admission ticket to the gallery.

On Sunday, May 31, visitors can create four Mokuhanga Japanese prints in a family-friendly guided session titled Paddle in the Surf.

Tickets, priced at £15 per person, can be bought from the gallery’s admission desk on the day, and family tickets are also available.

All activities, workshops, and exhibitions are included in general admission, except Gallery Tales and Mokuhanga Printmaking, which incur an extra charge.
