Gladstone Gallery today announced the appointment of Julian Ehrlich to the role of Director, bolstering the Gallery’s work with artists across its roster and expanding the Gallery’s senior team. Recognized for his distinct approach to promoting rising artists, as well as extensive experience in the art market, Ehrlich joins Gladstone from Christie’s, where he most recently served as Head of Post-war to Present Sale and Associate Vice President. He begins today in his new role.
“Julian brings to Gladstone a gift for identifying artistic talent and ability to develop strong exhibitions, as well as a deep commitment to supporting rising artists. This, combined with his strong experience working with collectors and institutions make him an ideal addition to our team,”
says Max Falkenstein, Senior Partner at Gladstone Gallery.
“We are pleased to welcome Julian to Gladstone, as we continue to enhance the reach and impact of our collaborations with artists.”
During his tenure at Christie’s, Ehrlich oversaw and contributed to sales of important contemporary art collections, including ADAM: Works from the Collection of Adam Lindemann and The Rosa de la Cruz Collection, and extended Christie’s roster of museum, nonprofit, and collector clients and collaborators, from the American Friends of the Moderna Museet to the Poetry Project. Leveraging his interest in the dialogue between emerging and established artists, he was additionally responsible for maintaining the momentum of Christie’s mid-season sale platform, setting price benchmarks for artists as varied as Lois Dodd, Noah Purifoy, Lynne Drexler, and Ana Mendieta, among others. Prior to Christie’s, Ehrlich served in the Post-war and Contemporary department at Sotheby’s, playing an instrumental role in achieving record prices for artists such as Ed Clark and Jack Whitten. A native New Yorker, Ehrlich received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in Art History.
