Hereford’s new museum and art gallery takes local feedback

Since early 2025, more than 60 people from across the county have taken part in co-production panels, contributing to the designs for the revamped museum and art gallery.

The panels, which have been meeting regularly, are formed of people from different backgrounds and communities, including young people, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ communities, ethnic minorities, and veterans.

Their aim is to ensure the new institution reflects the county’s diversity and is rooted in the lives, identities, and creativity of those it serves.

Damian Etheraads, museum and art gallery lead, said: “This is more than a building project, it’s about creating a destination that feels open, welcoming, and relevant to everyone.

“The voices of local people are helping us get there – and they’re shaping everything from the stories we tell to the spaces we create.”

The museum team welcomes more members from underrepresented groups to join the panels, and can express interest by writing to museums@herefordshire.gov.uk.

The time commitment is around one to two hours each month.
