Eighteen famous paintings have been installed in Newport as part of a national touring exhibition by The National Gallery called Art On Your Doorstep.
The artworks will remain on display until October 30, offering residents and visitors a unique cultural experience.
Alex Minns, service director for community regeneration and economy at Isle of Wight Council, said: “It is incredible to see reproductions of world-class art arrive on the streets of Newport, transforming familiar places into an open-air gallery that everyone can enjoy.
“We’re proud that the Isle of Wight is one of just a handful of locations across the UK chosen to host this national exhibition.”
Each piece is a life-size, high-quality replica of the original painting, presented in a frame and positioned along a step-free, one-mile trail through Newport.
The route takes visitors through heritage sites, alleyways, historic squares and down to the harbourside, making art accessible to all.
The project was secured by the Isle of Wight Council through the Shaping Newport partnership, which includes Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and the Newport Business Association.
Fiona Capewell, clerk at Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, said: “This trail is a fantastic celebration of creativity, heritage and community collaboration.
“Secured through the Shaping Newport partnership, Art On Your Doorstep shows how working together can enrich the town, encourage people to explore Newport in new ways and create memorable experiences right through to the harbourside.”
Many of the pieces were selected by community groups and a local school to reflect their surrounding environment.
The exhibition is part of a three-year National Gallery project reaching all four nations of the UK and working with 12 partner locations.
The Isle of Wight is one of only seven locations hosting the trail in 2026.
Artworks on display include Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond, van Gogh’s Sunflowers, Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire, Renoir’s The Umbrellas, and Holbein’s Christina of Denmark.
Each replica is positioned to reflect and enhance its location within the town, blending art into the fabric of everyday life.
