On this occasion, Pattnaik said, “Today, I am honoured to be the first Indian artist to receive the ‘Fred Darrington’ British Sand Master Award at Sand World 2025, a prestigious international sand art festival in Weymouth, UK. This recognition is a testament to my 10-foot sand sculpture of Lord Ganesha, symbolising the universal message of ‘World Peace’.”
This year’s festival featured a diverse array of intricate sand sculptures created by international artists. The event also honoured the 100th birth anniversary of renowned sand sculptor Fred Darrington from Weymouth, the namesake of the award.
The mayor of Weymouth, Jon Orell, presented the award and medal to Pattnaik. Director of Sandworld, Mark Anderson, and co-founder David Hicks, were also present at the ceremony. Naorem J Singh, Minister (TNC and Culture) at the Indian High Commission in London, attended the event as well.
Pattnaik, a Padma Shri awardee, has participated in over 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals worldwide, earning numerous accolades for his work.
