Open for Art Trail set to return to Dorset in 2025

The event, organised by Artwey CIC, will take place from Saturday, May 17 until Sunday, June 1, and will showcase the work of more than 60 artists across Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and surrounding areas.

Art enthusiasts will have the chance to explore studios, exhibitions and workspaces and meet artists who will provide insights into their creative processes.

Hilly Longman, chair of Artwey CIC, said: “As part of Weymouth and Portland’s Town of Culture celebrations for 2025, this year’s Open for Art Trail highlights the exceptional creative talent found not only in these towns but across the wider region.

“It’s a chance for both visitors and residents to connect with artists and explore the rich artistic landscape we’re so proud of.”

The event, which takes place every two years, will feature 27 venues – all of which will have free entry.

Keith Holdaway, Open for Art coordinator, said: “This year’s trail is a wonderful opportunity to explore 27 inspiring venues, each with its own unique character and artistic energy.

“Our free brochure – complete with a suggested route and recommended refreshment stops – is available from local pick-up points.

“You’ll also find venue signage, kindly provided by our sponsors, DOMVS estate agents, to help guide you along the trail.”

The trail will also include a group exhibition titled ‘Poundbury Unwrapped’ at the Jubilee Hall in Poundbury.

The exhibition is organised by Judy Tate, who said: “We’re delighted to take part in the Open for Art Trail again this year.

“This Artist Collective have created a unique and exciting body of work showing their diverse responses to ‘Poundbury Unwrapped’.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to Jubilee Hall in Poundbury, sharing insights into our creative processes and presenting the outstanding work of our artists.”
