Newby25 art trail features over 50 sculptures at Newby Hall

The trail, called Newby25, is the first of its kind at Newby Hall and Gardens, near Ripon, and guides visitors through the estate’s award-winning gardens, ancient woodlands, and orchards.

Curated by Orlando Compton, who comes from the family that owns Newby Hall and Gardens, the trail displays over 50 sculptures.Orlando Compton of Newby Hall and Gardens with a life sized horse made from recycled horse shoes by metal sculptor Tom Hill (Image: Dan Oxtoby Photography)

These creations are the work of 27 artists of both national and international renown.

The sculptures, set in diverse styles and mediums, range from finely worked bronze to repurposed steel, glass, stone, and resin.

Among these are three sculptures by Hamish Mackie, one of Britain’s foremost wildlife sculptors.

The exhibition continues until September 28 and is included in the ticket entry to Newby Hall and Gardens.

Orlando Compton said: “For the first time, visitors can follow the trail through Newby’s award-winning gardens which won a gold medal at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

“Newby25 also meanders through the hall’s ancient woodland and orchard, providing an inspiring journey through diverse artistic styles and mediums.”

Tickets can be booked online via Newby Hall’s website.
