Miu Miu launches Tales & Tellers exhibition at Art Basel Paris

Miu Miu has always been a brand that goes beyond clothing, weaving the complex and intricate stories of women into their catwalk shows and other ventures. Since 2011, the Italian fashion house has presented its widely acclaimed Women’s Tales, providing a platform for female filmmakers to share their take on womanhood. Now, as part of its partnership with Art Basel Paris, Miu Miu has launched its Tales & Tellers exhibition, which delves further in its exploration of female narratives and spotlights women’s voices, stories and works.

Conceived by the interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga – who previously worked with Miu Miu in designing the newspapers guests could keep after the SS25 show – and convened by the art curator Elvira Dyangani, every film commissioned by the brand since SS22 will be represented by a character inside the Palais d’Iéna. Tales & Tellers will also include screenings of all the short films and videos, together with a programming of conversations.

Macuga has revealed that audiences “should not expect a normal exhibition” when visiting Tales & Tellers. “Instead, they will step into a vibrant and dynamic environment where art, design, performance and cinematic storytelling converge.

“The goal of this project is to liberate the characters from the two-dimensional confines of video projection and bring them to life. This instillation goes beyond passive viewing. Visitors become part of the unfolding narrative as they move through the space, observing and interacting with different elements.”

“The focus is on the vantage point of each narrator, custodian and tellers as the story is generated,” Dyangani adds. “Who are the tellers? How do their pre-existing experiences shape their perception of the account at hand?”
