Cuddington Station platform adorned with stunning mosaic art

Train passengers now arriving at Cuddington Station will be greeted by three panels on the platform depicting several favourite sights of residents.

These include St John the Evangelist’s Church in Sandiway, Whitegate Way, The White Barn pub, and the Round Tower on the A556.

Also depicted is local legend Harry the Cat who, before his sad death earlier this year, befriended young and old alike on his strolls around the village.

The ‘My Favourite Cuddington Places’ artwork is the culmination of a Cuddington Youth Club project which has taken place over several months.

Working with artist Jan Johnson to create the panels, the youth club also had help from children at both Cuddington and Sandiway primary schools.

Youth club chairman Steve Chivers said: “Thanks to the funders and Jan Johnson’s guidance, the youth club’s members and volunteers have completed a project that will enhance the village and station for years.

“Nearly every member contributed to the mosaic, so they can proudly say, ‘I did that’, when visiting the station in the future.

“Thanks must also go to Beth Barlow for suggesting and managing the project.”

Children from the villages’ schools worked alongside adults at a residential home to create a display of mosaic flowers which adorns the bottom of the work.

Cuddington Primary School head teacher Beth Hacking said: “The children have really enjoyed being creative with the residents of our local residential home.

“The outcomes of the artwork are truly collaborative and represent the two different generations working together.

“It was lovely hearing the children talk with the residents about their lives and interests, with the ‘focus’ being the artwork.

“Some children who are usually quite reticent to talk opened up beautifully.”

The project was made possible through grants from Cheshire West and Chester Council, Northwich Rotary, and Cuddington Parish Council.

The Mid Cheshire Rail Partnership also lent a hand to help hang the pieces and is looking forwards to hosting them for many years to come.

Cuddington Youth Club is keen to be a hub for future art projects and offer creative opportunities to its members, but also involving other interested community groups or local people.

Ideas brewing at the moment include handy crafts like knitting and crochet.
