DULUTH, Minn.– Once known as the St. Peter’s Church over in the west end, the Great Lakes Academy of Fine Arts transformed it into a vessel for creating art.
The school opened up in 2016, and students wasted no time getting involved.
Considered a hidden gem in the community, the church was bought by the now teacher Jeff Larson.
Pieces of history remain in the building. The pews were transformed into art easels.
Described as a tight knit community, the school only has four students at a time.
The owner is grateful to be able to live out his dream of teaching his passions.
“For me it’s a thrill to be able to work with, you know it’s like working as a coach with really good athletes. There’s so much potential. And to see them kind of grow and progress, and I get to kind of live what I did. You know, it’s really gratifying,” said Jeff Larson, co-owner and founder of Great Lakes Academy of Fine Arts.
Later on, we will paint a bigger picture about this academy when we feature it for our Knowing Your Neighbor segment.
