There’s some local flair to the newest exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery (KAG).
Salmon Arm-based artist Amy Modahl, who did some of her schooling at UBC Okanagan, will be on display at the downtown Kelowna gallery over the coming weeks.
Her solo exhibition of paintings called Redactions will open at the KAG on Saturday, Nov. 2, and be on display until Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025.
“Redactions features a fascinating new series of paintings that weave themes of language and visual expression,” explains Christine May, KAG curator.
“The works showcase Modahl’s exploration of abstract graphic elements which creates a rich and layered visual experience for visitors to delve into.”
Included in the exhibition are pieces like 8 feet of my diary, redacted, which is a sprawling work on eight feet of paper featuring layered pen, pencil, ink and white-out.
Another called We were young then gives the impression of a written page that has been heavily blacked out and smudged to obscure the text to an illegible state.
Modahl’s work will invite viewers to immerse themselves in this visual narrative, encouraging deeper contemplation of language, materiality and the art of expression.
A free opening reception for Modahl’s exhibition will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, Nov. 1, and Modahl will be in attendance.
