New art gallery to open near Marlborough in Wiltshire

Huxley-Parlour, already established with two locations in central London, will open its third gallery near Marlborough on Saturday, April 26.

The new exhibition space is expected to host between six and eight exhibitions annually.

The first exhibition, titled Lucie Rie: Selected Works 1955–1982, will feature 14 ceramic works from the artist’s London period.

Rie, who moved to the UK in 1938 from Austria, became a prominent post-war potter and artist in Britain.

A spokesperson for the gallery said: “Rie made a conscious choice to move away from traditional British styles of pottery.

“Instead, the potter looked elsewhere, drawing from classical antiquity and examples of ancient Roman pottery in particular.”

Her distinctive style was influenced by classical antiquity, geology, and modernism.

The gallery will also display works by Italian artist Nina Silverberg alongside Rie’s collection.

The new gallery will open free to the public, allowing more people to enjoy a wider range of international art.

The gallery is located in Mildenhall, Marlborough, and will be open from Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 3pm.

Lucie Rie: Selected Works 1955–1982 will run from April 26 to June 11.
