Art show at Stocker gallery in memory of late artist

An art show in memory of a local artist will be June 20 at Lorain County Community College’s Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery.

Elizabeth Rose Guilkey, 49, died April 21 of bacterial meningitis.

Her husband, George Guilkey is hosting the art show and establishing a scholarship in his wife’s name.

Art will be on display and available for sale during the three-week show.

Drinks and refreshments will be available on the opening day.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Lorain County Community College.

George Guilkey has also established a GoFundMe account to raise money for his wife’s funeral expenses.

The fundraising account is titled, Funeral Help for George’s Beloved Elizabeth.

Sixty people donated for a total of $7,190 thus far of its $10,000 goal.

“She was a great woman and an excellent artist. She was a kind and loving person who went out of her way to help others. She loved children and was working as a teacher when she became sick with meningitis,” Guilkey wrote on the fundraising page.

“It was a rapid decline, and though we were able to get her to the hospital, the doctors were unable to stop the progression of the disease. She was in a coma for several days until the doctors determined that she had extensive brain damage. She was taken off the respirator and was unable to awaken from her coma and could not breathe on her own.”

“She was supporting me because I have congestive heart failure. I need help to take care of her funeral expenses. I’m looking for a job right now, but her passing has been so sudden that it has left me with few options for a funeral.”
