Taunton town centre has a new art gallery following a letting by Summerfield Commercial of retail space in the High Street previously occupied by Shoe Zone.
Triton Galleries, which also has outlets in Dartmouth and Torquay, specialises in original art and collectable limited editions from leading contemporary artists from around the world.
On display in the gallery is a 1972 L S Lowry Going to the Match limited edition print, signed in pencil. This is one of only 300 produced and as such is very rare and the most sought after Lowry signed, limited edition print, with the original painting selling for £7.8 million in 2022.
Having refurbished the ground floor for the gallery, Summerfield Commercial is currently converting the two floors above into four high quality apartments that will be available for rent at the end of the summer.
Will Grant, director for Summerfield, said: “We are delighted that the space will be used for art as it is in the heart of the town which now has two museums, a theatre, Castle Green event space and regular markets making it a destination for culture as well as retail.”
David Phelps, director for Triton Galleries, said “We are excited to be opening in the County town and are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to a range of artwork by highly collectable artists as well as newly discovered talents.”
