Interactive art installation takes over Guildhall Square

An interactive art installation transformed Guildhall Square into a space for public creativity and conversation.

Shape & Shift, a sculptural placemaking project by artist Tim Scrace, took place in Salisbury and invited passers-by to explore and reshape artwork in real time.

Launched on Saturday, May 2, the project was facilitated by See Space Differently with support from Salisbury City Council, encouraging members of the public to engage with sculptural “pods” that could be moved, rearranged and interacted with throughout the day.

Scrace, founder of See Space Differently, said: “Shape & Shift is about handing the tools of placemaking back to people so they can see space differently and shape it for themselves.

“The response in Salisbury showed how quickly public space can become a place of shared imagination.”

The installation turned both Guildhall Square and Market Square into a temporary civic workshop over two weekends, attracting more than 100 participants and their families.

A creative placemaking workshop for young people, Shaping Our Future, will take place on Wednesday, May 27 from 6pm to 8pm at Salisbury Arts Centre, in Bedwin Street.

A formal launch for the See Space Differently placemaking CIC is planned for Friday, July 17, with additional workshops and reactivation events expected across the city.
