Warrington Museum and Art Gallery has launched the guide as part of the Bloomberg Connects app, joining hundreds of cultural institutions around the world in offering digital access to their collections.
The free app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, provides visitors with maps, accessibility information, and gallery guides, while also offering the option to explore the museum’s 170,000 artefacts and exhibits remotely.
Stephanie Clemens, museum development manager at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, said: “We are delighted to join the Bloomberg Connects community and share Warrington’s history and culture more widely with more people.
“The app gives us the opportunity to highlight interesting objects from our collections and to tell stories from different perspectives.
“We love that the app is so accessible – users can easily change the language, it’s compatible with screen readers, we’ve been able to easily add transcripts of our audio, and our visitors can use their own device in comfort.”
The app also features audio tours with commentary from museum staff, guides to the art gallery, and insights into the archives department.
It is designed to enhance the experience of on-site visitors while also providing a virtual alternative for those unable to visit in person.
Ms Clemens said: “As a team, we’ve enjoyed taking an innovative approach to interpreting the collections and we’re looking forward to developing the app to enhance more collections and exhibitions in future.”
To access the digital guide, visitors can download the Bloomberg Connects app or scan QR codes located throughout the museum.
