Harris Museum and Art Gallery’s colourful new virtual look thanks to a Preston creative

“The development of the brand strategy and visual and verbal ideas has been a carefully considered process, looking for what was true about The Harris and our city.

“And just like the building work our approach keeps its heritage alive while bringing everything up to date for a modern city.”

The museum’s website has been revamped ahead of the building’s official reopening on Sunday 28 September.

Refurbishment has been taken place across the Harris’ grade-I listed building since 2022 leaving the city without its major cultural hub for more than three years as reopening dates slipped due to contractors going bust and spiralling costs.

Bird’s work includes videos which have a playful nod to the Ice Age Elk – Horace – which is on display in the museum and appears strolling across the Flag Market.

A spokesperson for the Harris said: “As part of the Harris Your Place project, we want to be clear about who we are, what we are and why we exist

“Extensive research including workshops, interviews, and surveys have been undertaken to understand what local people think.

“As part of this transformation Bird, a Preston-based design and branding agency, have been working with us to create our new brand.

“At the same time as the building is getting a makeover, the look and feel of The Harris brand is getting some attention too.”
