Barnstaple artist launches her own art fair

A Barnstaple artist has taken the reins to create her very own art fair after a major London art event was cancelled just days before its opening. 

Sarah Lee-Pettifer, originally from London but now living in Barnstaple with her family, is a visual artist known as Mrs Animation.

She was one of nearly 100 artists preparing to exhibit at Roy’s Art Fair at London’s Oxo Tower from 27–29 September. 

The fair was unexpectedly cancelled four days prior, but Sarah quickly organised a new event in Barnstaple’s Pannier Market, where it was a success.

Now, Sarah is hosting another event – the first-ever Mrs Animation Art Fair – set for 16 November at the Pannier Market, with North Devon Council considering making it an annual highlight. 

With 16 stalls available and 12 spaces remaining, Sarah encourages artists of all levels to apply. 

“We have a lot of arts and crafts here, but when it’s a dedicated art fair, everyone thinks you need to go to big cities to find that,” Sarah explained.

“But you don’t – it’s right here on your doorstep.”

Known for her dynamic VJ (video jockey) sets, Sarah has worked with top figures like John Giddings of Solo Music Agency and contributed visuals to the Isle of Wight Festival, Reading Festival, and Boardmasters. 

Her work is currently on display at London’s O2 Arena, running from 2 September to 31 December 2024.

The Mrs Animation Art Fair promises a lively atmosphere with food, drink, and live music, creating an exciting backdrop for a day dedicated to visual art. 

Sarah is actively seeking visual artists to join the fair, offering a fantastic opportunity to showcase their work in Barnstaple. 

Stall fees start at £50, which includes a personal stall, an exhibitor manual with setup and breakdown guidance, and the chance to display one piece at a local venue for the “Meet the Artist” night on Friday, 15 November. 

Exhibitors will also benefit from commission-free sales, security at the Pannier Market during the event on 16 November, and promotional exposure through the fair’s marketing.
